Our Story

At Death Penny UK, our passion goes far beyond collecting history — we are deeply committed to preserving the memory, sacrifice, and honour of the brave men commemorated through the memorial plaques of the First World War.

Often known as “Death Pennies,” these poignant bronze plaques were issued to the families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Great War. To us, each plaque represents far more than an artefact; it tells the story of a life lived, a family forever changed, and a sacrifice that should never be forgotten.

We believe every fallen soldier deserves to be remembered as more than just a name. That is why, wherever possible, we conduct extensive historical research into the memorial plaques we hold in our collection. We work to uncover the personal stories behind the names — exploring military service records, regimental histories, census information, newspaper archives, and family histories to bring these men back into focus.

There is something profoundly moving about discovering who these individuals were: where they lived, the communities they came from, the battles they fought, and the loved ones they left behind. We consider it both a privilege and a responsibility to preserve these stories and share them with others who value remembrance and history.

Our mission is rooted in respect. We are passionate about ensuring these memorial plaques are treasured, preserved, and appreciated for generations to come — not simply as collectables, but as deeply significant pieces of personal and national history.

For us, remembrance matters. Every plaque has a story, every name deserves recognition, and every fallen soldier should continue to be honoured.
